At 6:52 on May 14, 2022, C919 aircraft numbered b-001j took off from runway 4 of Shanghai Pudong Airport and landed safely at 9:54, marking the successful completion of the first flight test of the first C919 aircraft that COMAC is about to deliver to the first user.

1、 Carbon fiber resin matrix composites
C919 large passenger aircraft is a civil aircraft model of domestic * * * using T800 high-strength carbon fiber composites. Compared with T300 materials, T800 materials have higher strength, modulus, toughness and better impact resistance. T800 carbon fiber composites are used in the rear fuselage and vertical tail of C919. Its engine fan blades are also made of carbon fiber composites.
The T800 material used on C919 adopts toughened epoxy resin matrix, and the reinforcing fiber is T800 carbon fiber. The tensile strength and tensile modulus are about 50% higher than T300. It is also a widely used composite material for the main bearing structure of civil aircraft in the world.
2、 Glass fiber composite
Compared with carbon fiber composites, glass fiber composites have slightly lower mechanical properties, but at the same time, the cost is much lower than that of carbon fiber. It is a component with less stress. The radome and flap of C919 large passenger plane are made of glass fiber composites. While meeting the design requirements, the manufacturing cost is greatly reduced.
3、 Aramid honeycomb material

The cabin door and cabin floor of C919 use aramid honeycomb material, which is a light and high-strength non-metallic bionic core product made of aramid paper impregnated with phenolic resin. Aramid honeycomb material has stable and light structure, high specific strength, high toughness, good fatigue resistance and fire resistance. Compared with foam core material, it has higher shear strength and more corrosion resistance than metal honeycomb.
4、 Ceramic matrix composites
Ceramic matrix composite refers to the composite material with the introduced reinforcement material as the dispersed phase and the ceramic matrix as the continuous phase. It has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, wear resistance, high temperature creep resistance, low thermal conductivity, low coefficient of thermal expansion, chemical corrosion resistance, high strength, high hardness, dielectric and wave transmission. It is widely used in many fields such as aviation and aerospace. The turbine components of C919 are made of ceramic matrix composites.
To sum up, the domestic large aircraft C919 uses composite materials in the main and secondary load-bearing structures such as radome, wing front and rear edges, movable wing surface, winglet, wing body fairing, rear fuselage and tail wing, accounting for 11.5% of the total weight of the whole aircraft structure. This is an important milestone in the application of composites in the field of civil aviation manufacturing in China. China's civil aircraft industry has ushered in new opportunities. Background:
On March 1 this year, China Eastern Airlines signed a C919 large passenger plane purchase contract with COMAC, and introduced five C919 passenger planes in the first batch, including three in 2022 and two in 2023. The unit price of the aircraft is 99 million US dollars (about 653 million yuan). This flight test is an important link before order delivery.
