New 3D printing technology makes opaque resin into objects

STRATASYS, a polymer 3D printing technology company, is now an official partner of Toyota Racing Development (TRD). The partnership will make its debut on the upcoming GR cup Toyota gr86 with 3D printing production parts, a new single brand racing series approved by SRO America.
David Wilson, President of TRD, said: "additive manufacturing enables us to quickly iterate, design and manufacture our racing parts, while the cost or labor intensity of traditional manufacturing methods is much higher. By cooperating with STRATASYS, we can promote our manufacturing practices beyond the current possibilities and truly use additive manufacturing to produce parts."
TRD has expanded the use of additive manufacturing from prototype manufacturing to * * * end use parts by integrating STRATASYS fortus 450mc, F370 and the new composite ready F370 CR 3D printer into its manufacturing plants in Salisbury, North Carolina and Costa Mesa, California. The industrial grade 3D printer will be used to manufacture * * * end use parts, including FDM nylon 12CF engine cover vent for the new Toyota gr86 production vehicle, as well as various * * * end use parts in the trd product portfolio. In addition, TRD has been a long-term customer of STRATASYS direct manufacturing, using various additive manufacturing technologies for prototype design. TRD will further utilize STRATASYS direct service for gr86 printing fixture, utilize STRATASYS H350 3D printer driven by saf technology and use sustainable STRATASYS high-yield polyamide (PA) 11 materials.
Pat Carey, senior vice president of STRATASYS strategic partnership, said: "this new partnership represents an important moment in the development of additive manufacturing for high-performance racing applications. We will work with TRD to support them to further adopt, prove and integrate additive manufacturing into their production as prototypes, tools and * * * end use part solutions for gr86 and TRD customized parts."
TRD plans to continue to integrate additive manufacturing into the manufacturing process of its TRD brand cars and racing cars.
